"Intelligent design"

I realize that people tend to get more religious as they get older because their fear of death grows the closer their expiration date approaches.

Nevertheless, it's odd that older people get more religious.

Because the older I get, the more my own body refutes the argument that it's the result of intelligent design.

The back? Bad workmanship.

The hips? Bad workmanship.

The shoulders? Bad workmanship.

The ankles? Bad workmanship.

The knees? Bad workmanship.

The eyes? Bad workmanship.

The gradually increased appetite and decreased metabolism, in an organism that gets less healthy when it puts on more fat? Bad workmanship.

A body that needs exercise in order to not get injured but gets injured every time it attempts even the mildest exercise? Bad workmanship.

The teeth that would already be gone if humans hadn't discovered fluoride and dentistry? Bad workmanship.

Arthritis - the body's defense system attacking the body because it's too stupid to tell the difference between "Cells to be defended" and "Cells to defend against", even though the cells to be defended have literally the same genetic code as the cells that are supposed to do the defending? Phenomenally bad workmanship. If I hired a security team and they ended up shooting me instead of prowlers, I would not only fire them but also sue them out of existence. And yet about a quarter of the adult population has immune systems that are exactly that incompetent.

Even humans can make better bodies, and better worlds, than the ones we currently have. Our robots feel no pain or fear, are immune to all diseases, and have no parts that can't be easily and completely repaired or replaced. Plus they're FAR stronger, faster, and have no end to their stamina. We create video game worlds in which injury, disease, even death are temporary inconveniences, easily overcome with a spell or potion.

If humans, with all our limitations and flaws, can easily imagine and create better worlds, and better selves, than the ones we got dealt... why can't an omniscient and omnipotent God do a better job?

A shitty watch implies the existence of a blind watchmaker.
