Evangelicalism is the devil

 

Evangelicalism told us there was a devil, and then promised to save us from him.

But it turns out Evangelicalism IS the devil.

Like the devil, it started out with good intentions and a desire to praise and serve.

Like the devil, it became corrupted by pride and lust for power.

Like the devil, as it fell it strove to take down as many others with it as possible.

Like the devil, it still wears the appearance of an angel of light but is a monster underneath.

Like the devil, it promises to bring wisdom and nobility, but instead brings destruction and suffering.

Like the devil, it promises material well-being, supernatural power, and political power, if only we will bow and submit to it.

Like the devil, it is a liar, and will not keep its end of the deal, but will always make sure that its victims pay.

Like the devil, it can lie so convincingly that even those who KNOW it’s lying can be deceived.

Like the devil, it is convinced that it should reign supreme and all others should bow to it.

Like the devil, it is the adversary of all moral beings.

Like the devil, it stands against everything the Christian god says about how humans should behave.

Like the devil, it will eternally be certain that it was the hero of the story all along, no matter what villainies it commits.

And like the devil, it will continue to steal, kill, and destroy for as long as it has any power to do so.

A Christian minister asked a Christian president, who was elected by Christians for Christian reasons, to behave in accordance with Christian principles. And yet, the majority of the country's Christians are mad about it. On Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Evangelical Republicans, and Judas Iscariot

Earlier today, I posted this on Facebook: "Tonight, for Maundy Thursday, Christians all over the world will commemorate a time when an innocent man who had done nothing more than criticize people in power was imprisoned and ultimately executed without due process, due in large part to a mob of religious people demanding his destruction and claiming he was a danger to the rule of the emperor. A matter of principle

Ever since November of 2016, the question has haunted me: How did the conservative Evangelicals I grew up with so thoroughly lose their principles? And the correct answer is: They never had principles.  But for once, I don't intend that as an insult. I mean this as a distinction between two different ways of looking at morality. Evangelicals never had principles; they had RULES. Because that's how their churches train them to think. They (along with the Catholics, who have fallen into the same error) are religious fundamentalists. They don't treat morality as a set of flexible guidelines that can and should change over time; they treat morality as a set of rules that are "the same yesterday, today, and forever".
