Devangelism?

I've heard some atheists use the term "devangelism" to describe their attempts to get theists to give up on bullshit and start basing their lives on reality. And I get it, especially as an exvangelical. I get the drive to guide people out of error into truth, out of darkness into light - especially now that I finally have seen which is which.  But I think maybe atheists are in danger of falling into the same trap that Christians do: Coming across as fanatics, zealots, and assholes. Let's be clear, Evangelicals are in FACT fanatics, zealots, and assholes, and it's super important to change their minds and get them to stop being those things. Especially because as a group they are destroying everything that was ever good about this country (INCLUDING the things that they claim to value). It's important to fight for a country that runs based on things that are true instead of things that are false, and we won't get there until enough people in enough key st...

Judge not?

Today I saw someone saying that we should go easy on religious people because even if they don't always do the right thing in practice, the ideals they're trying to live up to are at least good ones such as "Judge not, lest ye be judged". You know what, though? As an atheist, I no longer have to pretend it's a virtue to not judge people and ideas and movements that cause active harm. The rest of the verse goes "By the measure you use, you will be measured." And I'm okay with being measured by my own standard. Because my standard is: Don't harm people. REALLY don't harm people who are already struggling. And if you have the resources to help people who've been harmed, do that to the extent that you can without harming yourself. I do all that shit. I measure up to that standard. And every religion, everywhere, talks about that standard, but in practice brings about the opposite result. We've already heard everything that religious peopl...

Sexualizing Communion

Apparently, some Christians are mad at Machine Gun Kelley and Megan Fox for "sexualizing Communion" by taking pics of themselves with him dressed as a priest and her kneeling in bondage gear while he feeds her bread and holds a goblet of wine. I just think it's worth pointing out that in the Bible, immediately after Jesus gives his disciples the bread and wine and we have that famous scene where he says "This is my body and blood, given for you; eat this in remembrance of me..." IMMEDIATELY after that the following scene happens:  Jesus: *Strips down* Okay, boys, I'mma wash y'all's feet now. Peter: DUDE, I am NOT comfortable with this. Jesus: Bro, you gotta, otherwise you can't be in a relationship with me. Peter: Fine, then, wash me ALL OVER. I'm a DIRTY BOY. Jesus: Nah bro, just the feet, we're good with just the feet. Jesus: Except Judas, he's still a dirty, dirty boy.  Judas: *leaves* Hey temple cops, I'll kiss the guy you nee...
