Being in-your-face about your beliefs...

You'll often hear Evangelicals complain that atheists are too in-your-face about their atheism. The "joke" they make is "How do you know if someone's an atheist? Wait two minutes and they'll tell you!" And they'll even complain that atheists are trying to "shove their beliefs down our throats" and force them to give up their own values to comply with the values of atheists.


Right...


Darn those frothing-at-the-mouth atheists, always trying to push their beliefs on other people. 


Look at 'em, wearing their atheist symbol necklaces and tee shirts, plastering their oversized vehicles with atheist bumper stickers, bowing their heads as a family in restaurants and loudly proclaiming how thankful they are to atheism for the food they're about to eat,  tipping their servers with pamphlets about atheism instead of money, flying atheist flags on their homes, getting up early on Sundays to meet with groups of atheists each week to declare publicly how correct atheism is, joining choirs to sing the praises of atheism, going to atheist concerts and raising their hands to show their surrender to the truth of atheism as they sing atheist songs, starting every sporting event by huddling at the 50 yard line to declare their atheism, insisting that children should be required by law to recite an atheist credo before school each day, going door to door interrupting people's dinner to try and to sell them atheism like an overpriced vacuum cleaner (then acting like other people are the assholes for telling them to fuck off and let them have dinner in peace), standing on street corners telling everyone they're doomed unless they embrace atheism, having large public rallies under atheist flags to declare that America is and should be an atheist nation, claiming the right to refuse to treat patients in a hospital because of their sincerely held atheist beliefs, raising money to send people around the world to try and convert people to atheism, having PACs built around the premise that we need to elect more atheists so that our laws can be based on atheist values, trying to overthrow the government while waving atheist flags and singing atheist songs because they were convinced that some nefarious Christian agenda was undermining the legitimate victory of the atheist candidate... 


Yes, it's ATHEISTS who do these things. 

How obnoxious of the ATHEISTS to be so in everyone's face about their beliefs all the time. 

How unfair of the ATHEISTS to try and force their beliefs on other people.

On Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Evangelical Republicans, and Judas Iscariot

A matter of principle

Ever since November of 2016, the question has haunted me: How did the conservative Evangelicals I grew up with so thoroughly lose their principles? And the correct answer is: They never had principles.  But for once, I don't intend that as an insult. I mean this as a distinction between two different ways of looking at morality. Evangelicals never had principles; they had RULES. Because that's how their churches train them to think. They (along with the Catholics, who have fallen into the same error) are religious fundamentalists. They don't treat morality as a set of flexible guidelines that can and should change over time; they treat morality as a set of rules that are "the same yesterday, today, and forever".
